About Me
Hello, I’m James O’Dowd – a UK-based digital production specialist with over 25 years of experience across web development, UX/UI, video production and technical delivery.
I’ve been building websites and digital systems since 1999, back when Netscape Navigator was still hanging around, Internet Explorer 5 was causing developers daily pain and Google was only just beginning to take over the internet.
Over the years I’ve worked on everything from bespoke Laravel platforms and custom CMS systems to eCommerce websites, promotional video production and large-scale business rebuilds. My work has ranged from independent local businesses through to projects at the BBC, including work on the original website for a new television series called The Office.
One early idea involved a fictional bathroom webcam with random events happening in the background. We quickly got a memo back explaining that the writers felt it didn’t quite match the tone of the show. In hindsight, they were probably right.
Outside of digital work, I’ve also been a drummer since 1992, heavily influenced by Keith Moon, organic rhythms and the belief that there’s no such thing as too many crash cymbals.
I believe good digital work should be clear, practical and built properly. No jargon, no unnecessary complexity and no bloated solutions, just thoughtful work designed around real-world use.
Some of my clients have been with me for well over a decade, and I take a huge amount of pride in building long-term working relationships based on trust, reliability and straightforward communication.
